Textual Grammar

Voice Changes:

1. But her next question removed my doubts.
Ans: But my doubts were removed by her next question.

2. I found the window.
Ans: The window was found by me.

3. Few girls can resist flattery.
Ans: Flattery can be resisted by few girls.

4. I did not see you.
Ans: You were not seen by me.

5. Do you see any animals ?
Ans: Are any animals seen by you.

6. Then I made a mistake.
Ans: Then a mistake was made by me.

7. My aunt is meeting me there.
Ans: I will be met there by my aunt.

8. She thought me a romantic fool.
Ans: I was thought to be a romantic fool by her.

9. She would forget our brief encounter.
Ans: Our brief encounter would be forgotten by her.

10. The carriage wheels changed their sound and rhythm.
Ans: Their sound and rhythm were changed by the carriage wheels.

11. I asked the girl if she was going all the way to Dehra.
Ans: The girl was asked by me if she was going all the way to Dehra.

12. But I liked the sound of her voice.
Ans: But the sound of her voice was liked by me.

13. A man getting into the compartment, stammered an apology.
Ans: An apology was stammered by a man getting into the compartment.

Ans: My reverie was broken into by the man who had entered the compartment.

Ans: Some time would be taken by me to discover something about her looks.

Narration Changes:

1. “We’ll soon be at your station”, I said to the girl.
Ans: I told the girl that we would soon be at her station.

2. The girl said, “I wish I were going to Mussoorie”.
Ans: The girl wished she had been going to Mussoorie.

3. The girl said, “Oh! How lucky you are.”
Ans: The girl exclaimed in joy that I was very lucky.

4. She said, “Why are you so serious?”
Ans: She asked why I was so serious.

5. “I didn’t see you either,” I said. “But I heard you come in.”
Ans: I said that I had not seen her either but had heard her come in.

6. I said to the girl, “What is it like outside?”
Ans: I asked the girl what it was like outside.

7. I told the girl, “Are you going all the way to Dehra?”
Ans: I asked the girl if she was going all the way to Dehra.

8. “She was an interesting girl”, I said.
Ans: I said that she had been an interesting girl.

9. She said, “I did not know anyone else was here.”
Ans: She said that she had not know anyone else had been there.

10. I said to the man, “Can you tell me — did she keep her hair long or short?”
Ans: I asked the man if he could tell me whether she kept her hair long or short.

Transformation of Sentences:

1. As soon as she left the train, she would forget our brief encounter.[Turn into a negative sentence]
Ans: No sooner had she left the train, than she would forget our brief encounter.

2. She was silent. [Turn into a negative sentence]
Ans: She did not speak.
3. Only the scent of perfume still lingered. [Turn into a negative sentence]
Ans: Nothing but the scent of perfume still lingered.

4. October is the best time of the year. [Turn into a negative sentence]
Ans: No other time of the year is as good as October.

5. She seemed to find nothing strange in the question. [Turn into an affirmative sentence]
Ans: She seemed to find everything familiar in the question.

6. Few girls can resist flattery. [Turn into an negative sentence]
Ans: Most girls cannot resist flattery.

7. This is the best time. [Rewrite using positive degree]
Ans: There is no other time as good as this.

8. Yes, October is the best time. [Rewrite using positive degree]
