It is an autobiographical novel, and David, the hero is the projection of Dickens himself. David is a hero who has inspired me a good deal. His misery and sufferings in his earlier life are touching. He has passed through many trials and tribulations. His journey from London to Dover is a painful experience of struggles for a child. Dickens shows here the sufferings of the child who has been ill-treated by his step-father and who has passed through pains of child labour. His experiences in Salem House, a public school was very unpleasant and painful. He had fitful glimpses of good life in the country house of Peggotty where he met little Emily and Ham. Dickens himself had painful experiences in his childhood.
