ARTICLES A, An, The are called Articles. ★An article is a determiner that signals the coming of a noun. ★ Articles are a type of adjective. They are always used with a noun. 👉Articles are divided into two parts— 1. Indefinite Articles ‘A’ and ‘An’ are called Indefinite Articles. ‘A’ and ‘An’ are not used to refer to any particular person, place or thing. A and An are the abbreviated form of the adjective ‘one’. They are used with singular countable nouns to denote ‘one’. Did you know ? The use of A and An depends on the vowel and consonant sound, not on the opening letter. 2. Definite Article ‘The’ is called the definite article because it refers to a definite or particular person, place or thing. ‘The’ is the abbreviated form of the adjectives this, that, these, and those. Question : Sketch the character of Natalya. Answer : In the play ‘The Proposal’, Natalya is the twenty-five year old unmarried daughter of the wealthy landowner Stephen Stepanovitch Chubukov. We learn from from Lomov’s soliloquy that she is an excellent housekeeper, not bad-looking and well-educated, even before she appears. When finally she makes her entry, she appears as a quarrelsome lady, ill-tempered without any courtesy.  At first, she begins a bitter quarrel with Lomov over the ownership of the Oxen Meadows. But when she comes to know about the purpose of Lomov’s visit, she gets extremely excited and restless to call him back. And when Lomov comes back she again get involved into an argument over the superiority of their respective family dogs.
